In 2006 and 2007 he worked as the wellness coordinator for the movie SICKO traveling the world with Michael Moore and staff while filming, “I had an opportunity of a lifetime as a trainer and chef assisting the making of a movie that dealt directly with health and sickness”.
In 2009, Doug opened Rock Bottom Gym after returning home to Traverse City with one goal in mind, to make this a one of a kind "Trainers Gym" with the best staff and programming in Northern Michigan. He has passionate opinions about the direction the health fitness industry and the direction the facility should take each time a patron steps through the doors.
"What we need badly in this country is a paradigm shift in the way we process the word 'exercise' in our conscious and sub-conscious, in fact we need to get rid of the word all together. For the moment I am going to replace it with the word “movement”. We need to “move” all day, how’s that? Immediately it’s more palatable, I can accept moving all day certainly more than exercising all day. And here’s the good news, our bodies have evolved and we’re designed for that very purpose, in fact all systems in our physical bodies thrive as a result of all day movement.”
Doug can be heard every Sunday on WTCM AM 580 giving health fitness tips and advice.
